Robert’s Path to Working Life After Learning Visual Components at the University
Learning simulation software can help you become more competitive in your job search once you graduate. Here’s how learning Visual Components helped Robert land a job.
If you’re asking yourself, “should I spend time learning Visual Components at the university?”. The answer is, “Absolutely, you should!”
Here is Robert’s journey from university to employment.
In 2012 Robert started his mechanical engineering degree at Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus–Senftenberg. Being interested in robotics and simulation, he decided to write his thesis on “Development of a cleaning concept for a robot-assisted wash system for commercial vehicles” using simulation software available at the university. Visual Components was not yet offered at his university back then.
To continue expanding his expertise in simulation, Robert entered a master’s degree in Automation Technology with a focus on the Automotive industry. In his master’s thesis titled “Skill-based robot programming: interpreting industrial predetermined motion time studies in aero-engine assembly,” Robert explored the possibility of designing a virtual production and bringing automation to the engine production in the aero industry. Typically, there is a low quantity of engines produced and each of them is very large and customized to the needs of the customers. This customization requires a set of different processes that are typically done manually. However, the aero industry explores the possibility of automating these repetitive manual tasks as well.
Robert turned to a familiar simulation software for his master’s thesis; however, since the thesis required a deeper knowledge of simulation, Robert searched for self-learning materials to broaden his knowledge. Finding educating tutorials was difficult as there was almost nothing available online; therefore, mastering the software was difficult on his own. Robert turned into alternative options in the market and found various tutorials of Visual Components on YouTube. He thought:
“How easy to use! What a genius move to put tutorials on YouTube”.
Robert tested the software during the free student trial period to ensure that Visual Components fits his project due to the Python API needs and the possibility of combining flow simulation and robot simulation in one platform.
The university acquired Visual Components EDU package after Robert presented the capabilities and benefits for the students’ learning to the professor.
“The Decision for VC was based on Python API abilities, which is very extensive and free, go in and change the property of every component or location.”
Every time Robert had a technical challenge, he would turn to the Visual Components YouTube playlists or search the right tutorials and lessons on Visual Components Academy.
The EDU package is now used in the Manufacturing Simulation module for students’ projects where Robert was tutoring new students aspiring to learn the 3D simulation. After deploying VC, Robert has noticed a remarkable increase in students’ comprehension of complex operations and a sharp decrease in frustration.
After presenting his thesis to the company, Robert received a lot of positive feedback. The employees were impressed with the flexibility of the software and how easy it is to change stuff around as well as the level of video quality. After graduation, Robert was seeking employment at various engineering companies. The employers were interested in his previous projects and asked about the simulation software Robert used as it was very visual and capable. Robert has scored a great job and now he can use Visual Components every day!
